Today we are going to discuss the problem of when your child blames others for his mistakes.
For example, let’s say your child suddenly gets very angry and explodes. You may ask yourself, “What happened? Why did he get angry? Why did he explode?”
Try as you might you cannot thing of anything you did that could have caused you child to become angry.
Another scenario; perhaps your child tends to blame somebody else for his mistakes. He doesn’t take responsibility for what’s going on. This is a situation and it’s a very common situation in an Oppositional Defiant Disorder child.
Children blame others for their mistakes. This is a real problem, which you usually need to teach your child not to do. A person who does not take responsibility for his own actions and errors is going to have a hard time in life.
What happens many times is that Oppositional Defiant Disorder children do not take responsibility for their actions. It’s your job as parent to teach your child to become responsible. You must teach him to be a responsible child so he can become a responsible teenage and then a responsible adult. That’s our task and we have to be able to do just that.
One of the other problems we deal with when we have an ODD child or ODD teen is when the child blames somebody else for his mistakes. He do this by getting angry. Very often your child may be using anger as a smoke screen to cover up for his short comings.
Children use anger as a tool to avoid problems, to avoid addressing real issues. That’s how they cover up for their problems, their short comings. Anger becomes a problem solving technique for them, which is very bad. If you have a problem of anger in your house, it could be that this is what your child is doing.
